Maytag

Founded in 1893 by F.L. Maytag in Newton, Iowa, Maytag began as a farm implement company. Throughout the twentieth century and into the twenty-first, Maytag evolved into a major appliance enterprise and acquired several other companies including Jenn-Air (1982) and Amana (2001). In 1986, Maytag became the Maytag Corporation. In 1997, Maytag became an Energy Star manufacturing partner. In 2002, NORDYNE licensed the right to market HVAC equipment under the Maytag name, including Maytag heat pumps, furnaces and central air conditioners and cooling products.

Frigidaire

The history of Frigidaire dates back to 1916 when the Guardian Frigerator Company began manufacturing the first electric household refrigerator. General Motors purchased the company in 1919 and made it a subsidiary of Delco-Light in 1921. Later, it became known as the Frigidaire Division. In 1979, White Consolidated Industries acquired Frigidaire. AB Electrolux purchased WCI in 1986. Frigidaire is known for making the first room air conditioner.
